Alan has over 30 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, and has worked with many high profile companies in senior positions. Alan’s career highlights include the construction and shaping of Oryx/Kerr-McGee’s UK business and its ultimate sale to Maersk Oil, roles as managing director at Lundin Britain Ltd and chief executive of Wood Group’s North Sea business.
Prior to joining Verus Petroleum, Alan worked as chief operating officer with North Sea development production company Iona Energy. On graduating from Edinburgh University with a BSc Hons in Chemical Engineering, Alan spent the first 10 years of his career with Shell as a petroleum engineer.
With over 35 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, Peter has worked with small and large global organisations in Australia, South East Asia and Europe. Highlights include working as director of strategic planning/M&A and head of new business/M&A at Maersk Oil & Gas (Copenhagen), offshore development projects for Shell, Exxon, Arco and Ampolex and development projects and decommissioning manager at Kerr-McGee. Prior to joining Verus Petroleum, Peter worked as vice president asset management with Iona Energy. Peter graduated from Curtin University, Australia with a BSc in Civil Engineering and from the University of Western Australia with an MBA.
John has over 30 years of upstream experience in the North Sea, Atlantic Margin, Africa and the Middle East. His highlights include being instrumental in the growth of Dana Petroleum from 2006 to 2013, as head of reservoir engineering and operated assets manager and latterly as director of reservoir management and technology. John takes his independent company experience from Enterprise Oil, Dana Petroleum and Iona Energy with his major experience from Marathon Oil, Total, ENI and Kerr-McGee. John graduated from Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh with a Master of Engineering (MEng), Petroleum Engineering.
Andrew has 20 years upstream, midstream and downstream oil and gas operator experience (Kerr-McGee, Maersk Oil, ConocoPhillips, EnQuest and Verus Petroleum). He is a dual qualified general counsel (Scottish and English Law) with considerable transactional experience. Andrew has held senior leadership positions including responsibility for managing all non-technical functions (legal, commercial, supply chain, logistics, HR, IM/IT, hydrocarbon accounting, office services). He has significant experience of different operating models including outsourced and insourced duty-holder. Andrew graduated from the University of Aberdeen with an honours degree in law and spent the early part of his career in private practice before moving in-house to work for Kerr-McGee.
Colin has over 25 years of experience in the oil and gas industry with international experience covering UK, Canada, USA, France, Norway, Middle East, North Africa and Trinidad and Tobago. He has held senior finance roles with companies such as Iona Energy, Dana Petroleum, MUSC, TSMarine Subsea, Lundin Petroleum and Venture Production. Within these roles Colin’s career highlights have included mergers and acquisition activity, commercial negotiations for infrastructure access, decommissioning security and LoC funding and stakeholder management. Colin is a Fellow of The Chartered Association of Certified Accountants.
David is an experienced business leader in the energy sector, with strong technical and commercial skills and has previously served as executive vice president and head of international operations for Pioneer Natural Resources and executive vice president of BG Group. He is currently serving as non-executive director for a number of listed companies, namely Hess Corporation, a NYSE listed oil and gas company with upstream operations in North America, Europe, Africa and Asia; chairman of Rockhopper Exploration plc, a UK AIM listed exploration company with assets in the Falkland Islands; Costain plc, one of the UK’s leading engineering solutions providers and chairman of Flex LNG an Oslo listed LNG shipping company. He previously served as a director of Northern Drilling Ltd, a Bermuda company listed on the Oslo Stock Exchange and as chairman of Cape plc, an energy services company involved in many large oil, gas and petrochemical facilities around the world. He has over 40 years of experience in technical, commercial, business development, general management and executive roles across all aspects of the international oil and gas business, including and in addition to those listed above, ARCO, LASMO, Ultramar, Shell and Fluor Corporation. David is an engineering graduate from Heriot Watt University, Edinburgh.
David is an upstream specialist with over 47 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry. He spent the majority of this time with BP, with firm foundations as an operational petroleum engineer, followed by a variety of commercial and field management roles leading to 10 years as vice president of upstream M&A. This was at the time of BP’s rapid growth and he was actively engaged in the acquisitions of Amoco, Arco and the company’s expansion into Russia. After leaving BP in 2008, David spent nine years with the Royal Bank of Canada as senior advisor to their international oil and gas team with particular focus on the UK. He has been a non-executive director of a number of upstream companies including Interconnector UK, Star Energy and Noreco, and brings a wealth of contacts and context to the Verus leadership team as they plot rapid, sustainable, profitable growth for the company.
Paal joined the HitecVision team in 2005 as a partner. Prior to this he was chief investment officer of Argentum Fondsinvesteringer, the Norwegian State’s PE fund investor managing approximately NOK 10 billion under management. His previous experience includes a number of years heading private investment companies, such as first vice president in the Kreditkassen bank, working with structured finance; and partner and managing director of companies in the Pareto Group, a leading Norwegian investment bank. Paal was educated at the Norwegian School of Economics and Business Administration and at the universities of Oslo, Bergen and Paris Sorbonne.
Ole co-founded HitecVision together with Jon Gjedebo and Ola Sætre, and his background includes nearly 30 years of oil industry experience. He joined HitecVision’s predecessor Hitec in 1989, and held the position as chief finance office and later also as chief operating officer. In addition to operational, financial and accounting responsibilities, he headed Hitec’s M&A activities and was in charge of structuring and negotiating transactions. He has led all the IPOs undertaken by Hitec and HitecVision, and has been instrumental in most investments and trade sales carried out through the Hitec system since the early 1990s. Ole has a business education from the Norwegian School of Management.
With more than 35 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, Mike has held a range of senior roles. Working in Norway and Italy as chief geologist and country manager for Enterprise Oil, Mike was also executive chairman of AIM listed Plectrum Petroleum until its acquisition by Cairn Energy. He served as an exploration and new ventures advisor to Petroceltic and as a non-executive director of Oyster Petroleum until its subsequent acquisition by Verus Petroleum. Mike is non-executive chairman of Spike Exploration and an operating partner of HitecVision. Mike graduated from Kingston Polytechnic with a BSc Hons Geology.
Gunnar has worked for HitecVision and its predecessors for the past 17 years and has over 25 years of oil industry experience. He started his career as an investment manager with Cybernetix and later as the company’s general manager. Before this he spent a number of years at Amoco in Norway and Houston, where his latest position was head of the analytical department at Amoco Norway Oil Company. Prior to Amoco, Gunnar held positions as senior corporate advisor at the Kreditkassen bank and finance manager at BJ Hughes. Gunnar graduated from the University of Colorado with an MSc in Finance.
Prior to joining the HitecVision team in 2018, John was Executive Vice President, Global Strategy & Business Development at Equinor. During his 16-year career with Equinor he held several central managerial positions in international operations, mainly in business development. Between 1987 and 2002, he held various positions in energy investment banking. From 1977 to 1985, he qualified and then worked as a barrister/lawyer, after which he spent two years with Shell Petroleum in London. John has first and post-graduate degrees in law from Cambridge University and the Inns of Court School of Law in London.
